Getting to Mokelumne Hill
Mokelumne Hill may be small, but it isn't hard to find! Located at the crossroads of Highways 49 and 26 in Calaveras County, California, it is a short drive (about an hour) from both Sacramento and Stockton. If you're coming from the Bay Area (San Francisco, etc.) it's a bit further - about 3 hours drive time.
When entering Mokelumne Hill on Highway 49, turn north on Main Street and you can't miss us down the hill on the right. (Southbound on Highway 49, turn left. Northbound on Highway 49, turn right.)
From the Stockton area: If you are traveling on I-5, take the Crosstown Freeway (Hwy. 4) to 99, then take 99 North. From 99, take the Highway 26 exit. Follow Highway 26 through a few towns until you reach Valley Springs. Approximately 4 miles past Valley Springs, Highway 26 will break off to the left. Turn left (stay on 26) toward Mokelumne Hill. Follow Highway 26 until it runs into Highway 49. (You're in Mokelumne Hill at this point!) Turn left on Highway 49, then right on Main Street.
From the Sacramento area: Take Hwy. 50 east towards Placerville. Exit at Howe Avenue/Power Inn Road. Turn right at the light, onto Howe Ave. At the next light, turn left on Folsom Blvd. Follow Folsom Blvd. through a few stop lights, then turn right onto Highway 16 (Jackson Road). Follow Highway 16 toward Plymouth. At the Highway 49 exit, take Highway 49 toward Sutter Creek / Jackson. Stay on Highway 49 through Drytown, Amador City and Sutter Creek. Approximately 3 miles past Sutter Creek you will reach a "T" in the road. Turn left (stay on Highway 49) at the T, and head down the hill into Jackson. Stay on 49 through Jackson, and follow the highway until you reach Mokelumne Hill (7 miles). Turn left onto Main Street.
From the Bay Area: travel to Stockton or Sacramento and follow the directions above.
